Fascinating to look at! If you look at the widely dispersed lights in west Texas you can see the Permian Basin oil fields. That area was DARK only 20 years ago!

Trek 520 disc. Masi Giramondo (if you can find one). Salsa Fargo for lots of off road. I splurged and went with a Lynskey Backroad titanium (and now I need a big lock)...

The Fargo and the Backroad give me the best reach to stack ratio allowing for a more upright position and I have them both.

A saleslady at REI told me they don't sell EVent products any more because it works so much better than Goretex that Goretex threatened to pull all of it's products! I'm looking hard at that Showers Pass jacket even though it's pretty pricey.

Your tires should be fine and as a new guy you can probably ask what pressure others are running. Prepare to get your heart rate up near redline and hold it there! And go practice mounts and dismounts! Have fun!

If those summer temps don't scare you I'm impressed. I lived for years out there and it gets REALLY hot, dangerously hot... and if you had a mechanical you might wait by the road for hours with no shade for a truck to pass by. Just sayin... From the NPS website: "Additional paving on the south ramp and coffer dam removal on the north ramp is still needed, though, so short-term closures can be expected in early spring/summer 2021."
