A few years ago I treated myself to the Exped Synmat 7 Ultralite - packs much smaller and lighter than my old thermarest and blows up much thicker so really comfy - do find it a wee bit slippy though - the fabric of my sleeping bag slides off it but my tent is so small I can't go very far.

Hi J - hope you don't mind me bugging me - checked out the route you suggested - Otto,  Basin,  Ten Sleep,  etc - only Arlington I can find though in WY is well off course though??

Hi J
Gorgeous picture and thanks for the tips - your link with the map Yellowstone to Keystone looks pretty similar to what I had in mind.
Cycle mostly every day - varies from couple of miles commute to work up to 100+.   Not done a big trip for a couple of years though - Stirling in Scotland to the Dolomites in Italy was the last big one.
I'm setting off from Oregon 20th of July.
Mainly pavement - need to make sure I get this right - what I call pavement at home you call sidewalk.   Trails would be good though but definitely NO mountain biking.
Hoping to have at least a couple of days in Yellowstone - coming in at Gardiner in the North and leaving at Cody in the East.
Cheers
Lucy

Routes / Solo Trip Across America
« on: January 14, 2017, 05:48:02 pm »
Hi folks
I'm planning my bike ride across America - it's going to be a bit of a convoluted route - apart from a couple of weeks in San Fran area never been to America before so want to see as much as possible and not just the shortest route across - but got only got just under 3 months to do it in.
At the moment I'm trying to plan my route from Cody,  Wyoming to Crazy Horse and then Mount Rushmore - from Mount Rushmore planning on cycling in the direction of the Deke Slayton Space and Bicycle Museum in Sparta,  Wisconsin.
Any advice on routes to take / routes to avoid / campsites and hostels etc would be brilliant.
Happy cycling
Lucy

General Discussion / Trangia Stove / Meths
« on: November 04, 2016, 01:17:35 pm »
Hi all and apologies in advance - I coming from Scotland next year to America,  to cycle from Oregon to Maine and I'm going to bug you all with lots of question -mainly about routes but here are my first 3.
1.  I'm  planning on bringing my Trangia Stove with me - is it quite easy to buy Meths in America and do you call Meths something else??   Sorry if this is a ridiculous question.
2.   Before I start asking questions about routes I wanted to make sure I am using the right terminology so that we are both speaking the same language - eg what I would call the road I think you call the pavement - and what I would call the pavement I think you call the sidewalk.   Can you confirm this please and are then any other helpful words that I should know.
3.  I'm really keen to learn more about Native Americans and get to meet them and learn about their history and culture,  etc - can anyone point me in the direction of some good websites to get me started.
Hope to here from you and happy cycling
Lucy
