Hi there!

Thank you for your advice & feedback!
I think a hostel is the way to go...
As i am on my own it can also be a nice way to meet other people!
I think i will try & arrive in the early afternoon, check in, spend the afternoon, night & next morning just strolling around & relaxing & pack and move at lunchtime on Day 2!

Thanks John for your feedback!

Hi! I am making my way south into California & looking ahead to San Francisco... I was in San Fran for a few days in 2003 & liked it...
I am planning on resting for one day in the area... the rooms are obviously on the expensive side...

Would you stay in San Fran or continue on to somewhere like Half Moon Bay?
If you choose to stay in the city, where would you stay?!

Thanks a mil..

Dublin Dave.

Okay ... thank you mate!

Good evening! And a very belated thank you for your feedback...
I have also uploaded the route onto Maps.me on my phone... it is a great app, as u can use it offline & save data charges & battery!

I like the idea of going with the flow & trying camping... but I think I will treat myself, where possible to a comfy bed, shower etc...

I have heard some people warning about hostels in the US... compared to Europe/Australia/New Zealand.. I heard some unsavoury characters can stay there?!
I could be wrong though!

Hi there! I hope you are all well!
I am planning a bike tour from Vancouver south to Mission Beach in July.
Generally on tours, the night before, I look ahead at 4/5 potential accommodation options 100-150kms ahead of my current location.
In France I used a campsite, BnB app and websites....

I plan on staying in Hike n' Bike campsites and treat myself every 3/4 days to a BnB or guesthouse...
I have the digital & paper maps from the ACA... I can see 'Service Directory' information on the paper maps with some accommodation options...

I have the maps on my Garmin & also on my Maps.me App...

What is the easiest way to plan accommodation options while en route?

Thanks a million!

Dublin Dave.

Hi! Yea, the plan is to do the trip in approx 1 month... but I could extend it to 5 weeks if needed...
I plan on getting down to Mission Beach & then relax somewhere near San Diego for a few days, before packing up & flying home!

I suppose if I take lots of detours, the time & miles will add up very quickly.....

Hi! Thank you for the reply!
That is great that you enjoyed the Olympic tour...
I will have to work out if the loop & back onto the standard Pacific Route will add much more mileage?!

Dublin Dave.

Hey! Thank you for the replies!
I have toured up to 3,500kms down through Europe & covered on average, 100-120km per day... On 2 days I covered up to 220kms so I can cover good distance if I need to!
Saying that, I am happy to have an adventure & just see how it goes.....!

Morning! I plan on cycling down in about a month...
The plan is to rest for a few days at the end of the trip and only stop for the odd day on the cycle south...

Thank you!

Good afternoon!

Thanks so much for such fab information.... I really appreciate it!
Since my overall goal is to get to the Mexican border.. Those detours would take too much time so i think i will just follow Map 1!

Taking the standard route down the Pacific Coast, are there any historical/scenic/natural/wildlife sights that would be worth detouring to go & see between Vancouver & the border...
I dont mind detouring, provided i am generally heading south?!

Thanks so much for the reply... I will look all the places you mention up, tomorrow morning!
Is the standard Pacific Coast route map 1 a nice route?
and would there be any worthwhile detours off this in a generally southern direction?!

Dublin Dave.

Lovely picture by the way!!

Routes / Worth cycling around Olympic National Park on Pacific Route??
« on: April 26, 2017, 04:13:06 pm »
Hi there!
I am planning my Pacific Coast tour...
The route starts in a Vancouver & heads south to Bellingham--Bremerton--Astoria.

Would it be worthwhile to detour around Olympic National Park via Port Angeles--Fork -- Aberdeen and rejoin the mapped route?

I am thinking in terms of scenery, wildlife and quieter roads?

I appreciate all advice and feedback!
