Urban Cycling / E-bikes in bike lanes: ok or invasive species?

Here in NYC, bike lanes are often multi-purpose, including speedways for E-bike delivery folk or just lazy riders.  I love the uphill bridge crossers pedaling at 5 rpm, but going 25 mph!  Anyway, my feeling is that if it has a throttle, it should not be in a bike lane.  What's the view from the "real world?"

Gear Talk / Shifters-integrated vs bar-end

I'm very happy with the integrated shifters on my bike (a 2007 REI Randonee).  Lately, though, I've felt lustful about the Surly Long Haul Trucker, but there are those bar-end shifters.

What are experiences good/bad with the bar-end type out there?
