Yep, I agree with the scheduling stops. What if you want to keep going for another 20-30 miles after you've notified a warmshowers host? Probably ok if you are just needing a camping spot and no amenities, but....

I have emailed a few for 'local information' and get minimal responses.

My XC starts 3/1/21, next year. Going East to west. Warmshowers back yards, city parks, Hoping all is better by then.

Would be great if I could get this 3-wheeled monstrocity of a trike (pulling a burley) off the road far enough to not be seen.  I've spent a night or four at Churches and also some volunteer, unmanned firestations before. Problem is finding the contact person on short notice.

Check with the LBS in the area. Usually, they know the routes and where the clubs ride and what's affected.

What's the experiences of finding an ok church, fire station, police station that will allow a tent for an overnight stay? My thinking and limited experience has been that with a day or even a few hours notice, it's usually ok. Or you can get a local referral even.

Churches, if you can contact someone to approve. Volunteer fire stations, again getting approval. These are mostly unmanned and sometimes unlocked, depending on location,  as they might offer inside accommodations as well.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas. My biggest worry is tires. Also, I'm riding a trike with a trailer, so 3 different sizes of said tires, not just say 700c for a road or hybrid bike. Over the years, when I have a flat on my roadbike running say 100-110 psi, l'll have un-repairable damage to the tire. But then again, at lower pressures on the trike and running the best marathons I can find in the closest sizes, I'm hoping that just a tube replacement will be all that's necessary to at least get me to the next town/bikeshop/warmshowers contact/etc. I can then, at worst, have the items sent from home. And to remember, spending an extra day or two waiting on mail, is better than punching a timeclock any day!!!

Just wondering. Hikers use a 'bump box' to forward supplies as they hike long distances. They forward the package to a destination a few days away and use as needed, then forward on the the next location on the route. Has this concept been used by bikers to have access to spare tires, tubes seasonal clothing, etc>

I may be crazy but I'm crossing to country on a trike. Pulling a Burley trailer!! Lots of dirt trails incorporated in too. I may never make the west coast, but what a blast to try!!!!

The issue is not with what charges the best. The issue is that Garmin warns not to charge their devices at more than a 2.0 amp rate. Above that, you could damage the device. A lot of the power banks mention 2.5 to 3 amp output so my confusion as to how to cut the amperage down to not burn up the Garmins.

Hey John!!!

It seems Garmin is a little 'proprietary' on their power bundles for their devices. The don't highly recommend any non-Garmin pack if at all. They did say to not go above 2.0 amps. From what I'm seeing the Ankers put out 2.0 amps per jack. But they also say they may NOT be for some GPS devices. I'm cornfused!!

Has anyone experienced issues with trying to charge their phone, tablet, cycling computer, GPS devices all from the same power bank? It seems there is no standard and a lot of mis-information about amperage limits on the different devices, especially the GPS ones. Help!!!!!

It's been 1 at a time so no, I don't need to carry multiples of the same size. I do like the Schwalbe Big Apples for riding comfort. But again, they are wire bead. Failures are usually from glass on higher-pressure road tires. Maybe with the lower pressure on the trikes I'll be fine?
