General Discussion / Touring partners and tents
« on: February 03, 2006, 10:43:00 am »
After many extended tours, backpacking trips, and climbing jaunts I have hit upon a golden rule. If you can afford the weight take seperate tents for everyone so there is some semblance of privacy and ability to get away from the dynamic stress of an expedition. What are the differing thoughts out there? I remember my first long trip. It was a climbing road trip for six weeks between my junior and senior year of college. We only had my tiny tent, TNF Lunar Light. After two weeks we shared a mutual bad attitude as well because we just could not get away. Some groups, pairs are different. Obviously family groups beat this rule but otherwise I think is pretty sound. Thoughts?

General Discussion / Adirondack Cycling

Anyone here toured extensively in the adirondack, finger lakes, and lake champlain area? I thinking of touring there this summer with my theme of reading the leather stocking tales.

just curious on what the conditions might be like. only time i've been that way was to go rock climbing at the 'gunks back in 2001.

Has anyone else out there slipped a pair of regular shorts and a t-shirt over their cycling gear to "check-out" a continental breakfast while on tour?

Anyone out there ride when touring at night? Not just when caught at the end of a long day but a deliberate run down the road at night like a double century on a full moon night with the lights off? just curious who else out-there likes to ride at night.

General Discussion / Aero bars for touring
« on: September 30, 2004, 11:41:03 am »
How many folks here using aero-bars for touring? I took mine off my TT bike and rode to work with my usual 15 pound load of clothes and books and it was not too sketchy. I am thinking of adding a set of cinelli mini-bars permanently to my tourer. Anyone else outthere using aero-bars? What types? Any issues, particularly on fully loaded descents with a full load?

General Discussion / Trinp Length
« on: September 24, 2004, 09:33:24 am »
How long do most of you tour for during your working year? At most without taking a specific vacation I get a lot of four day trips in becuase the army graciously gives us a four day weekend once a month. Of course that almost makes up for all the time gone but...another forum.

Just curious to know how many folks are able to get out and ride epic trips during the year.
