Road construction is occurring on US 2 between Mile Marker 299.8 to 308, in the area of Galata east and west between Shelby and Chester.

EXPECT: Reconstruction activities; Delays up to 15 minutes; Loose Gravel; Reduced Speeds of 35 MPH; Pilot Cars; Gravel Surface; Single Lane Traffic; Traffic Control by Signal Lights.

Emergency roadwork is occurring about 3.5 mi. SW of Stoner on State Hwy. 145. A rockslide, with a huge boulder, slid onto the highway May 25. At present, a single lane is open with alternating traffic using portable traffic lights. Expect delays. Go here for more information:

In Defiance, the Clinton St. bridge is under construction and closed until fall 2019. Here is the detour.

Logging activity is beginning along a 23-mile stretch in the Swan River State Forest in spring 2019. It is scheduled to last through 2021. There will be heavy logging traffic and they expect 20-30 trucks coming through daily:

We highly recommend the following detour. It begins at turn F and you can rejoin the route at turn K. Though the existing route will be open State Forest personnel want to minimize any potential conflicts between cyclists and truck traffic. The detour takes cyclists along unpaved roads on the east side of Hwy. 83. It includes a total of 3.2 mi. of riding on State Hwy. 83.

Upper Hoh Rd. (which intersects with the route) is closed for road repairs from 9/5/18 through 10/6/18 from the Olympic National Park boundary eastward into the Park. The boundary begins 12 miles from US 101. There is no access allowed to the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center and Campground.

Due to military operations, the Old Pacific Coast Highway and bike path will be closed from San Onofre State Beach (I-5 Exit 71) to the Las Pulgas gate (I-5 Exit 62) from Sept. 24-28 and Oct. 1-5, 2018. Bicyclists may ride on the I-5 shoulder during the indicated days of the Old Pacific Highway closure.

There is extensive road construction on SR A1A/200 from I-95 east to Amelia Island. Completion is currently scheduled for summer 2020. Bike lanes and shoulders are missing so cyclists should avoid riding the highway during rush hours. Kyle at SuperCorsa Cycles on Amelia Island has provided an online detour between Yulee and Amelia Island which is safer:

Thanks Kyle!

Large parts of the Capital Crescent Trail are temporarily closed due to construction for a light rail line. It will reopen sometime in 2022. A local member gave us this detour:
Southbound: At turn J, turn right onto Jones Mill Rd., then immediately turn left onto Jones Bridge Rd. Go 1.7 mi. At Rockville Pike (also unsigned Wisconsin Ave.) turn left. Go 1.1 mi. At Bethesda Ave., turn right. Go 0.2 mi., then turn left onto signed Georgetown Branch Trail. The Trail is on the left just past the intersection of Bethesda Ave. and Woodmont Ave.
Northbound: At Bethesda Ave., turn right. Go 0.2 mi. At Wisconsin Ave., turn left. Go 1.1 mi. At Jones Bridge Rd., turn right. Go 1.7 mi. At 'T", turn right onto Jones Mill Rd., then immediately turn left onto signed Georgetown Branch Trail.

In Colorado, the Sugarloaf fire is burning southeast of Kremmling and the Williams Fork Reservoir, just southeast of CR 3. Air quality in the Williams Fork Valley along CR 3 is deemed dangerous. To detour around this use SR 9 between Kremmling and the Ute Pass Rd.

In the Helena National Forest on section 2 map A (on the new 2018 maps), the road between turn G and turn H will be closed from July 23 to Sept. 30, 2018 due to hazardous tree removal. Trees will be felled into the roadway, then a contractor with large equipment will be moving trees into piles on the North and South Fork Quartz Creek Roads. These roads will be closed to the public. The detour around this closure is to follow the Boulder Alternate.

Record-breaking drought conditions have caused the Carson National Forest to close the majority of the forest. On map B, the route between turn B (in southern Colorado) and turn K, near Abiquiu, is closed. We don't know the road conditions on the highways, or any service locations mentioned below. If you need services going southbound or northbound, Abiquiu is the best place.

Southbound detour: At turn B, ride west and continue on SR 17 for 15.4 mi. to Chama. At Chama, ride onto US 64/84 and continue south for 13.9 mi. US 64 leaves the route. Continue south on US 84 for 36.3 mi. to the intersection with SR 96. See the earlier topic titled: "Great Divide Section 5 - Santa Fe National Forest closure - June 1, 2018" for the next section of detour between Abiquiu and Cuba.

Northbound detour: from Abiquiu, ride northwest on US 84 for 6.5 mi. SR 96 turns right leaving the route. Continue on US 84 for 36.3 mi. US 64 joins the route. Continue north on US 64/84 for 13.9 mi. At Chama, ride north on to SR 17. Continue on SR 17 for 15.4 mi. to the intersection at turn B on Map B. Rejoin route.

A portion of FR 532 between turn G and turn H is closed due to road slumping. The detour around it is to follow the Wind River Alternate, noted on the map.

Another road that has the potential to be closed, but isn't as of today, is Brooks Lake Rd. just east of Togwotee Pass, between turn E and turn F. If it is closed the detour is to stay on US 26/287.

Great news for folks traveling through Big Sur. The Mud Creek Slide, south of Gorda that the DOT didn't think they'd have repaired until September will be opening at the end of July! Looks like work will continue but traffic will be able to pass through.
