I started on June 23rd and have successfuly ridden from Bozeman, Montana to Ithaca, New York.  I am now preparing the final phase of my ride into Washington D.C.  to promote sustainable agriculture and alternative transportation.  Please feel free to check out my ride on my blog: www.bikingforfood.org.  I am planing to be in Washington D.C. in time to participate in the 350.org international day of climate action and have an event posted with them: http://www.350.org/bikes-dc.  If there is anyone interested in joining me in part, or all of this ride company is welcome!

Routes / Rock Springs, Wy to Craig, Co

I'm on a cross-country trip from Bozeman, Mt to Washington, DC and I was hoping someone could give me some information on south of Rock Springs.  Particularly highway 430 to 318 between Wyoming and northern Colorado and whether they are paved or not.  We are currently in Jackson, Wyoming, heading to Pinedale tomorrow (6/28) and down to Rock Springs after that.  Any insight into how to get from Pinedale to Steamboat Springs would be great!

Rocky Mountain / Biking for Local Food
« on: April 21, 2010, 02:27:57 pm »
Hello, I am planing a bike trip across the country, starting in Oregon.  My mission is to ride the entire trip while eating as much locally sourced food as possible.  I am hoping to promote alternative modes of transportation as well as to promote local food.  I will be starting in Cannon Beach, Oregon on June 22nd and will follow the Columbia/Washington/Oregon boarder through Idaho Hwy 12 into Missoula, to Bozeman, south through YNP, into Colorado before heading East, ultimately ending in D.C.

If anyone in the Rocky Mountain region would like to join me on a leg of the trip, me and my riding partner would love company!  Also if anyone knows of cool farms/farmers that I should visit along the way please let me know.

Also, we would appreciate suggestions on where to stay.  Right now we are planing on stopping in Missoula, Helena, Bozeman, West Yellowstone in Montana, Jackson, Pinedale and Rock Springs in Wyoming, Vernal Utah, Craig, Steamboat Springs, Silverthorn and Pueblo in Colorado.

Thanks for the input!

Routes / Biking for Local Food
« on: March 02, 2010, 01:42:05 am »
I've started planning a trip from the West Coast to DC.  I am hoping to do a mix between the Lewis & Clark route and the TransAmerica route.  I'm a recent graduate of MSU in Bozeman, MT and have altered the Lewis and Clark trail to go through Bozeman.  I am also originally from Steamboat Springs, CO so I've adjusted the TransAmerica route to go through Steamboat. Otherwise I am following the routes provided by this site.

The real kicker is that I am hoping to source as much food from local growers, farmers markets, CSAs, etc. as possible.  I found this site: www.localharvest.org/ that I'll be using along with others to locate sources for food.

Being my first loaded tour, I am open to any and all suggestions, advice, criticism.  I am in the market for a bike, am debating trailer options for carrying several days worth of fresh food and could use any advice offered.

The dates planned for the trip are from late June through August of this year.  Thanks for any and all input!
