Type of bike for touring Brazil

Please could anybody recommend some good (reasonable priced) touring bike options for brazil please

More information is needed.  Where in Brazil?  Cities and paved roads?  Way out in rural areas with dirt roads?  Deep in the jungle? 

About all I can generalize is to avoid proprietary and rare components and odd-ball low spoke count wheels.  Shimano hubs, drive trains and brakes are sold universally so any shop anywhere can repair or replace them.  Have a steel frame for strength and repairability.

I may be prejudiced, or misinformed, but I'd suggest something you won't be too upset over if it gets stolen.  Once met a Brazilian cyclist in the US and that was the first thing she said when I asked about cycling there.  Although, I'd guess, like almost anywhere else, cities would be worse in that respect.

Are you shipping it from the States or buying it locally? Bringing it home or leaving it there?

Standard response, as Dave has already noted: steel frame and simple mechanicals. You want stuff that is universally repairable and replaceable.

+1 for the best locking system available.  Having said that Brazil is one of my favourite countries.  You'll have fun and the people are great.  Just avoid - like anywhere - the poorer areas of cities.
