bike travel in cuba

Can anyone provide info on either self directed touring or a reasonable tour company in Cuba. I did some checking on the internet and what I found was expensive and was more of a biking vacation than touring. Also I know visiting Cuba is restricted for U S citizens but I heard there is an organization that will facilitate travel there based on some type of cultural or humanitarian excahnge.

I am almost 100% certain Adventure Cycling magazine had an article about cycling in Cuba within the past couple years.  Personally I don't have any way of looking through the old magazines.  But maybe there is a method to search stories on the Adventure Cycling website.  Then order that particular magazine.  Or call up Adventure Cycling directly and request the issue.

CAREFREE IN CUBA…ALMOST
"About as gutsy a bargain traveler as they come." That's what NEW
YORK TIMES book reviewer Pamela Paul had to say about "The Handsomest
Man in Cuba," a travel memoir by Lynette Chiang, a self-described
"author, handlebar videographer, Customer Evangelist, failed hippie,
and Bike Friday adventurette from Down Under." Re-issued in 2007 by
the Globe Pequot Press, the book is Chiang's personal account of what
it's like to "eat, drink, and be cautiously merry among ordinary
Cubans." Find out more by visiting this site:

This page contains 5 links to information about bike touring in Cuba.

Three are touring journals and two are informational sites.

I would just go there and tour. I don't know, but I was told you can get a visa to go there in Costa Rica without the US government knowing anything about it.
