Southern Tier Re-route through Texas
« on: November 20, 2011, 01:37:14 pm »
I am starting Southern Tier Map 2 today, and am anxious about starting map 3, along the border of Texas.  Anyone have suggestions for re-routing to stay off the border?  Please let me know.  I am also thinking about taking a train to cut that part out.  Any advice would be much appreciated!

If you are referring to security along the border, you shouldn't be concerned.  We stayed on the route and saw only tons of border patrol, no problems.  And that's what I have heard from others.  Enjoy!

Cromanik,

It would be well worth your time to search the forums on this topic - it's been asked and addressed more than once.  There are some interesting opinions, but I think you'll find that no one is going to suggest you avoid the border or any other part of the route as formally mapped by ACA.

We too had the same safety concerns last year on the Southern Tier.  We paid attention to our general travel safety and never ever felt threatened.  You will see lots of Border Patrol and if you are stopped they'll usually stop and make sure you are OK.
