Southern Tier Section 4 Map 61 - Bastrop fire closures

Several weeks ago a major wildfire occurred.

Bastrop State Park is closed.

The road (Park Road 1C) between Bastrop State Park and Buescher State Park is closed.

State Hwy 71 between Bastrop and Smithville has a good, wide shoulder and local cyclists comfortable with high speed traffic use it.

There is also a more scenic, longer route using State Hwy 304 and Farm to Market 2571. These are two lane roads with minimal shoulder and enough traffic that vehicles will be overtaking you.

Buescher State Park is open.

Some parts of Bastrop State Park have opened.  However, road 1C is still closed.  Here is the website that lists what is open and closed:  http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/bastrop/
