Ortlieb trunk bag question

Has anyone had experience with the Ortlieb rack bag? http://www.ortliebusa.com/CartGenie/prod-212.htm It seems to be a new product and I can't find any reviews on the web (well three actually). They also sell an adapter that allows you to hang paniers easily which would be nice. I currently have a cheap Novara bag with velcro attachment and it's a bit of a struggle sometimes to attach my Sport Packers.  The zip top seems really handy too.

This won't help you too much, but... it's Ortlieb*. In my experience, you can't go wrong with Ortlieb. Rixen+Kaul clamps are pretty neat, durable bits (I have a few). And Ortlieb bags are invariably impressive: durable, long-wearing, easy to repair if you do something untoward, well thought out, and easy to use. Once you use an Ortlieb bag, you immediately know where the extra money went.



*I have all Ortlieb: handlebar bag, Backroller panniers front and rear, Office QL3 panniers. I have owned Arkel (also a great company), but Ortlieb better suits me.

I also agree you can't go wrong with Ortlieb - however, looking at the bag I'm not sure what I would use it for when fully laden touring as it seems to be designed for the top of the rear rack.  That's where my tent etc etc go. 

Is it much bigger than the handle bar bag?

But I guess that if it meets your purpose then as said it will be good quality.  Maybe if you buy it you can put a review here.

Excellent point. I've always toured with a rack bag but in future I think I'll do without. I ended up piling stuff on top of it and if I needed the stuff in the bag it was a pain getting to it. I think I got carried away with Ortlieb mania. There's nothing wrong with my existing bag that getting rid of it won't fix.

That is my thinking with regard to trunk bags as well.  The space on top of the rear rack is just better used for the tent and maybe the sleeping pad if you have one that isn't small enough to go in a pannier.

Of course of course, I knew I had been going wrong all these years.  Who needs a tent when you have a six pack.

you'll need more than a 6 pack to not notice you don't have a tent!
I pull a BOB so my rack needs are different.
