New Off-Road Bike tours in New York City area

I'm not a mountain biker, but i'm planning the end of a cross country tour ill be doing this coming summer.  I am finishing the tour in New York City.  I still need to find a rout between Buffalo, NY and NYC.  Any suggestions? (I know you specialize in mountian biking, but any information you can give will be helpsful)

Hey Mark, looks like a good and fun idea. I grew up in the Mid-Hudson Valley and New Paltz is an amazing place to ride, both on-road and off. The 'Gunks are pretty unbeatable, plus New Paltz has great aprés-ride culture. As I recall, there is also some amazing riding around Bear Mountain.

Karmelj, contact New Jersey Randonneurs (www.njrando.com/), Central and Western NY Randonneurs (http://www.distancerider.net/rides.php) and Mike B. of VT Randonneurs (http://littlecirclesvt.com/about/). Between them, they should be able to direct you to scenic, enjoyable routes from NYC to Buffalo. If you're up for extra distance, I suggest routing through the Catskills and Finger Lakes regions. The views are wholly worth the extra day or two.

Rte. 5 has a spur to Buffalo and intersects with Rte. 9 which takes you into NJ then Manhattan via the GWB.

If you are going to be on AC's Nothern Tier route along Lake Erie, you can take Rte. 17 from Westfield (located between Erie, PA and Dunkirk, NY).  Rte. 17 also intersects Rte. 9.
