Gps waypoints for Rock Creek Trail Washington D.C.
« on: February 03, 2012, 01:24:01 pm »
Plan tour in late August. I am using ACA Atlantic Coast maps, and I have downloaded waypoints for my tour. I am using Topo 9 for planning tour, and using PN-60 with tour project created with Topo 9.
Problem with downloaded waypoints from ACA for the Atlantic Coast Trail  is the lack of waypoints for the Rock Creek Trail in Washington D.C.
I have downloaded maps for the Rock Creek Trail which will help guide me.
Question, is there any place that I may download waypoints for the Rock Creek Trail, to be able to use my GPS through this entire tour?

Google just found a few sites that carry this information for me. One that looks promising: http://zhurnaly.com/maps/DC_Metro_Area_Trails_GPS_Waypoints.html

You can chart you route over the trail on a map such as http://ridewithgps.com. Navigate to Redland, MD. Select "Bike Paths" view from the top right corner of the map. Drop a point at the start of the trail and another at the end. RWGPS will follow the trail and generate a GPS file for you.

You can add pre- and post-sections of your ride to the map as needed.

I used ridewithgps.com. The waypoints that I needed could be uploaded to my GPS.
This is a great web site to find waypoints, or just cycling trails that mapping software may not have.
