Ordered Maps!
« on: April 11, 2012, 04:39:12 pm »
Just ordered the maps for our cross country ride (TransAmerica Trail).  :)
We will be going from East to West...the maps have the ride ending in Astoria, Oregon. We would like to finish in the Bellingham, Wash. area. Any suggestions for routes to complete that leg of the trip?

Thanks!

I enjoyed the Pacific Coast route between those cities. Easy riding. Rural scenery is pretty but not majestic.

Yes indeed, you only need to order one more map, the Pacific Coast Section 1.

Or if you are a glutton for "punishment" and have the time, take the spur to Missoula at the Jct. of U.S. 12 and U.S. 93. From Missoula, take the Great Parks route to Whitefish/Columbia Falls where you can get on the Northern Tier to Sedro-Woolley, WA , which is about 30 miles south of Bellingham. You would miss the eastern/central OR desert and McKenzie Pass, but in return you would get the easdt shore of Lake Kookcanusa and the mountains of WA, including Sherman Pass and the North Cascades Highway. With even a few more days, you could ride east from Whitefish/Columbia Falls into Glacier N.P., take a day to ride (without gear) up and back down the west side of Going to the Sun Road, and then head west back to Whitefish and continue on the NT.
