Average time necessary to ride the TransAm EW?

I'm leaving NJ in early May, taking Atlantic route to Va, then TransAm/Wexpress to Cali...any approximations on how long it would take at 30-60 mpd?

Reminds me of "The Money Pit."  How long was it going to take?  2 weeks.

So, without any more data about route, age, fitness, goals, rest days, or just plain touring off the bike, it's time to pull out the standard answer.  How long does it take to bicycle across the country?  3 months.

Total route mileage determined from the ACA maps/average miles per day will give you number of riding days. Add in rest days if you plan to take any as well as a few days for mechanical problems and possibly bad weather to be on the safe side.

Calculating with a rage of average mpd (e.g. 30-60) is difficult since if most of the time you average only 30 mpd it will take a lot longer than if you average 60 mpd most of the time.

Assuming your 30-60 mpd includes rest days if any in the average.  Just divide the miles by the expected miles per day.

Figure 3800 miles from Yorktown.  So something like 60-120 days plus how ever much it takes you to get to Yorktown and any rest days if they were not included in your 30-60 mpd average.

We did the TA from Florence to Yorktown and it took 73 days, but your route is probably a bit shorter.  I think our average was 60 mpd.

My advice is to just allow a generous amount of time and finish when you finish.  It is so much nicer to not have a looming deadline.  That is easier if you start at the end that is farthest from where you live to get air travel out of the way up front, assuming you live near one end or the other.

BTW if it was me I'd skip the WE and just do the TA or the TA and L&C.  If you have to wind up in San Francisco hop on a train from Oregon.
