Glendive, MT to Havre, MT

Dear friends,

some time in July I will be riding from Glendive, MT to Havre, MT (I have to catch the train there to Pittsburgh, PA). From what I see on the map there are 3 possibilities to do this. 1: via Hwy 200 to Grass Range and from there north to Harlem (Hwy 2) and West to Havre, 2: via Hwys 200 and 80 to Fort Benton, following the L & C trail, and then north to Havre, 3: via Circle to Glasgow and then on Hwy 2 to Havre (on the Rand McNally map Glasgow to Havre is marked as "Scenic route").

I take it from "Bicycling the Lewis & Clark Trail" that 1 seems to be quite interesting and without too much traffic.

Can anybody make recommendations which route would be the most interesting (scenerywise)? Would be very grateful for advice.

I just got a look at the overview map for the NT reroute in this neighborhood. The ACA scouts chose SR 200S from Glendive to Circle, SR 13 north to Wolf Point, then west to Havre going on and off US 2, taking parallel local roads where possible. See the map here. Section 3 of the NT map is expected late in April. Order a copy and get all the good stuff.

I have cycled most of these roads and loved them. If you are coming to Glendive from the east, consider a day off in Theodore Roosevelt NP, 50 miles east. Nice easy rolling paved roads, lots of bison and smaller animals, interesting rock formations and vegetation. The Maah Daah Hey Trail is interesting walking and nearby. Camp in the park or motel it in Medora, where there's a well-appointed bike shop.

so I'll wait till I get the maps with the changed route. Then I'll decide which way to go, so far I favour following the L & C trail from Circle on Hwy 200 to Grass Range, then north to Harlem and west to Havre.

Got a little information about Theodore Roosevelt NP and this really looks very interesting, so I will definetely stay 1 or 2 days at Cottonwood Campground near Medora. That was a very good advice, thamks.
