Pitching a tent along the western Southern Tier
« on: April 11, 2012, 01:09:20 pm »
I'm heading off on the Southern Tier route from San Diego to Texas in a couple of weeks, my first time in the Southwest. Just wondering if the ground is mostly sandy and if I should take along beefier spade-type tent pegs instead of my thin ultra-light ones.

I just did the ST and MSR Needle Stakes were fine most of the time.  The few times they were iffy at all I was able to get by in one way or another.   I'd say just take your ultra-lite ones

In a pinch , tie to the middle of the stake and bury it horizontally

... or drive it in and place a rock on it.
