Searching for a Bike
« on: May 19, 2012, 05:50:38 pm »
Hi, I am 16 years old and going on the Oklahoma Freewheel this summer. I have decided that I would rather not ride it on a hybrid bicycle, but rather on a straight up road bike. I'm looking to buy it new, but I'm just not sure where online to look for these bikes. I found the site bikesdirect.com, and am wondering if this is a good site to buy from, or if there is a better one out there. BTW, I am hoping to find a bike that doesn't require much assembly, which I've heard bikedirect has a lot of.

Bikesdirect has been discussed many times; see archives. Also see recent discussion for "Windsor Tourist".

If you are mechanically inclined and don't need much support, Bikes Direct can save you money. Most of their customers are satisfied.

The words I bolded in the quote above are very important if you buy from Bikes Direct.  Otherwise plan on spending a fair bit more money to have a bike shop set it up and make the necessary adjustments.
