Need to park my car in Lima MT + shuttle question (GDR)
« on: June 15, 2012, 10:03:39 am »
Hi,

I planning on driving to Lima MT, or possibly Divide, to meet some friends who are heading north on the CDR. I looking for a place where I might safely park my car for the 2 weeks or so I'll be riding with them. Any ideas?

I'm guessing I'll be returning from Roosville, so I need to find a way back to my car after 10 or 14 days or so. Is there anyone else headed south around July 4 thru 7 (ish). I've not checked into the commercial shuttles yet, but I'm mostly hoping I can find a ride other than that. Of course I'd help of pay outright for gas etc.

I realize this is all a bit vague, but I'm not exactly sure what the rate of travel will be for the folks I'm going to meet, ( how far along they'll be when I catch them) nor what the rate of travel will be once we get together.

If anyone has any in put I'm wide open for suggestions.

Thanks lots,

Mike

I have left my car more than once in parking lots of small town bars or cafes-after buying a meal. Get to know the owner over a burger and you'll likely get a ready offer.
Can't help you with the return.

I rode through Divide last year. There ain't much there. Don't know if the outfitter there is still in business. There is also the Blue Moon Saloon. A easy ride south down the frontage road takes you to Melrose. There is a motel/campground there (think it's called The Sportmans Motel) that might let you leave you car. The Hitching Post is the local eatery. They might also have some ideas. Melrose is an actual town with residents. Divide looked like simply a junction of roads with a few businesses.

Thanks Indyfabz and Driftlss. It's hard to tell what's really there on the CDR map. Important towns to a cyclist don't necessarily match the car world. Meeting a local for sure would be the best way.
Thanks again,
