Can someone recommend an inexpensive hotel/motel/hostel in Las Vegas ?

I'll be flying into Las Vegas from the UK in October for a 4 week tour.

I'd appreciate recommendations for somewhere to stay at the start and end of this tour.  Not after anywhere fancy, clean, safe cheap are my main concerns. A short distance from the airport would probably be a bonus.  I'd also like somewhere that will be obliging enough to look after my S&S backpack case for the duration of the trip.

Have you tried the online hotel search engines? it's an option especially in a busy travel destination like Las Vegas, you should be able to find someplace fairly cheap and with transportation to/from the airport...    (which isn't far away from "downtown" in any case)..

If you are talking about staying on the strip which is about 4 miles from the airport, I have stayed a few times at Circus Circus. I stayed there last october on a monday for $45 however dont expect that if you arrive on a weekend.

Folks there volunteer their home for bike tourists to stay while on tour. Membership is free and looking at the map for Las Vegas, I see 4 hosts around the airport.

Would have to second Circus Circus for the cheapest room in Vegas. Stayed once on Super Bowl weekend for $36/night.

Granted, it was in some detached two-story building out back that looked straight out of one of the seedier episodes of CSI. But it was a bed and shower real cheap.

I think a nice stay would be Monte Carlo.  We have stayed there several times, I think the last time was for around $49/night .  Very close to airport. When you are searching keep in mind most places tack on a resort fee per night - around $15.  But still fairly reasonable.  Monte Carlo is not huge, has a nice pool for a break and a reasonable food court to eat at before you begin or end the trip.
