Ride Idaho 2012 announced

Open for registration! It's a one-way trip this year but the organization is providing tansit and parking options, for a fee, of course. Local catering, shower truck, excellent mechnaical support and sag. Come ride with us.

We start in the heartland of Idaho in the little tow of New Meadows and travel north to Moscow. Side trips to Elk City and Troy. Some interesting backroads that will keep us off Highway 95 for long stretches.

We sold out quickly last year.

Try over 2,200 (they overbook based on historic cancellation rates) in about 40 minutes. We are on the right coast and stayed up until midnight to register.  We both got in. Even the wait list is closed.

Ride Idaho is way undersold this year. Some of the regular participants have posted their reasons for not signing up or complained about the route: 1) too much climbing, too many hills; 2) it's not a loop; 3) doesn't go anywhere fun.
Weird.
Ride Idaho, like many other non-profit bike touring companies, is designed to take bicyclists to parts of the state they would probably never visit in a car. We have a noticeable economic impact on small towns. The organizers have plotted an interesting route that uses little-known farm and backroads that will keep us off the major highways werever possible. The hills we're climbing are  rich with history and offer incredible views of Idaho's heartland.
Idaho is a series of monstrous mountain ranges that run more or less from east to west with the long and wide valleys between them. There are only two ways to move from one valley to another: you either climb over the passes or you go around the mountains. Going around means you ride the same small number of highways that every one else drives.
