Spot 2 How do you put a route into Spot Adventure in real time
« on: October 24, 2012, 04:18:22 pm »
Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help.

Spot mention about their Spot Adventure Web Site but I am finding it difficult to get information on how to use it.

I have worked out quiet a lot, including how to download a route from my Spot account into Spot Adventure, but have been unable to work out how to put a route into Spot Adventure to run in real time with tracker for my family to see the route I am taking.

At present I go to Create Adventure

Click on My Device Number

Make up a adventure title.

Put in my Adventure dates

Then click Blank Map

click Create Adventure

click save and continue

then save and close

Then switch on my Spot 2 and start route but nothing seems to happen.

Can anyone help please

thanks John

Do you have the "tracking" subscription? This is separate from the standard annual subscription.

Tracking Progress is $50/year more.

For domestic travel, check out Find my Friends app on iPhone & Google Latitude.

I have a few more questions:
  • Can you send Check-In/OK? Do your contacts receive them?
  • To Track Progress, do you press and hold the Track Progress button until it blinks green?
  • Do you see the GPS and Message Sending lights blinking green for approximately 15 seconds when sending Track Progress messages?
  • Do any of the lights blink red?

First off, I'd use SpotWalla for tracking - you can have maps on all three, though; I do.

Second, Real Time mixing a pre-planned map with a active/current track or Spot message sounds good - and good luck with that!  Actually, while I've hear that the was site that made that happen, the site is no longer on the web; perhaps there is another.

Third, the good news; SpotWalla recently released a beta for its SpotWalla APi - SWAPI.  I've done some looking at it and think that it is just what everyone is waiting for.  I expect someone is already working on an Androd App for it.  Myself, I will look into this issue this January when the weather turns cold and I am forced indoors;  I wanted this tool last summer while paddling the FCT.

Fourth, be slightly leery of placing  Real-Time data where just anyone can see it.  Few think abut just how badly that can go.  The leap from an "innocuous newspaper article" to showing someone "where you are going to be" can turn out badly  Re: Jenn Gibbons, On Mission To Row Around Lake Michigan.
