Salsa Vaya rack advice
« on: August 13, 2012, 06:44:58 pm »
I'm looking to add racks and panniers to my Salsa Vaya. I could go with the Salsa front and rear racks which are made for the bike. However, I am tempted to order Tubus racks based on their reputation and increased load capacity. Most of my expected touring will be 1-2 week stuff. Nothing in outer Mongolia. Thanks.

The straight blade fork in the front may affect a regular rack so the Salsa one will obviously avoid the problem with the front.

For the rear, I use an Old Man Mountain Red Rocks rack because I took it off my old commuter/touring MTB. It's not the lightest of the bunch but is build super well and is a solid rack.

I imagine you got your racks by now, but you'll probably need the Salsa front racks to fit with the disc brakes. Me and 2 of my buddies have them on Fargo and Vaya and they're really nice.

Yes, I bought the front rack from Salsa and use it on my Vaya, I find it works nicely with the fork (it better!) and with my set of Carradice panniers...  I have gone on a few short tours with it.
