Indianapolis to St. Louis Area
« on: March 13, 2013, 10:19:47 am »
I live in Indianapolis and plan to ride the Katy Trail this summer.  I'd like to ride from home to St. Charles, MO, where the Katy Trail starts.  Does anyone have route information from Indianapolis to St. Charles?  Thanks.

Pick-up some Illinois Official Bicycle Maps. I use them all the time. If you can't find them PM me and I'll mail you the central Illinois maps to you.

A BIG Thank You for recommending the Illinois Official Bicycle Maps.  I did not know that Illinois had them.  Indiana does not yet have such maps.  Because of your post, I did a google search and called Illinois DOT and talked with a very helpful and informative woman (who is also a cyclist) who will be mailing the maps to me. Thank you again!!!

Dondito: You may have to ride to St. Charles to get on the Katy, but if you want to be a purist, the Katy now runs farther east from St. Charles to Machens ( I believe).

Yes Blackbear, I believe you are correct.  I will be plotting my route to Machens and hop on the trail there.  I will ride the trail to St. Charles where I'll pick up the shuttle service to the west end where I will start riding back east.

If you are camping along the way here are some of the campgrounds that I used last year heading to Katy Trail and beyond.
Sangchris SP - Beaver Dam SP - Pere Maquette SP - Klondike Park - Tebbetts - Katy Round House.
Good trail to ride and met a lot of nice people.
Have a great time!!
