Tail Bone Pain
« on: March 24, 2013, 04:15:08 pm »
My wife has been breaking in her new Brooks B17s on her trainer.  She likes it much better than her older gel saddle but has just started noticing a little soreness in her tailbone.  Anyone else have this concern and any suggestions?

Has she had a fit using a qualified bike-fit professional?  Most of these types of problems can me alleviated with a good bike fit.

Just spoke with my LBS and will be taking her in for a fit next week.  Thanks for the advise

A bike fit is a great idea, but to some extent, it just takes time. Most people say it takes a few hundred miles to break in a Brooks, but it took me a few thousand. Furthermore,  riding outdoors will likely be better for this than on the trainer.

There is a lot of variation in the leathers that Brooks uses.  I have had a saddle break in after a days worth of riding (black Brooks Conquest), and one that took all summer (black Brook Team Pro).  From the tanning community comes that black is one of the harsher leathers, and natural or white one of the softer leathers.

I suggest reading the sister thread on Titanico saddles.
