trailhead for adirondack loop?
« on: June 10, 2014, 06:04:01 pm »
Planning a trip mid July to the adirondacks and using the map of the Adirondack Park Loop...
will be traveling with one other person from Syracuse and wondering if there is a good place to park the car we are driving there and leaving it for 5 days.  anyone recently do this route and have suggestions for camping, bakeries, or just general notes?
thanks in advance

Where are you starting the loop? Doesn't the official loop start around Albany, NY and ride north towards the loop itself?

When in doubt, you can generally call the local police and ask. I did that when I did the Lake Champlain Bikeways loop around Lake Champlain.  They referred me to the local Amtrak station which is where we left my car.

You can generally assume people go away for a few days and leave cars at places like that.  If it's a private establishment like a hotel or so, you certainly should ask the owners.

Speculator is a nice little town that is on the route (I believe). There are a few town parking lots there. You could probably let the police know you are parking there and all would be good.

The Saratoga Springs Amtrak Station has long term parking.  I used it a couple of year ago on a modified loop.
