The route is closed due to the royal gorge fire.  You can get the latest information at http://inciweb.org/incident/3419/.  As of 1pm Tuesday June 12 "U.S. Highway 50 is closed in both directions from the Canon City Water treatment plant (1st Street) to Highway 9. Temple Canyon road has also been closed."
