Garmin introduces Monterra GPS with Android OS
« on: June 25, 2013, 09:28:53 pm »
Details on Garmin blog.

For over two years now, I had been expecting such a device. It is packed with features:
  • 3-axis compass with accelerometer and gyro
  • Barometric altimeter
  • UV sensor
  • Dual-band GPS and GLONASS receiver
  • 8-megapixel digital camera
  • IPX7 waterproof
  • Dual battery system: rechargeable Li-ion pack (included) or traditional AA batteries
  • WiFi, ANT+, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC
  • Android spectrum of apps
Available third quarter 2013 at a suggested retail price of $649.99.

It is missing a few features still: heart rate monitor & bluetooth 4. I should better start saving for the next release of the Edge series with app support.

I'd have thought that ANT+ capability would make heart rate monitoring possible. A reasonable thought?

I'd also wonder if it was possible to display data in a similar way to Edge units.

This unit would make it possible for me to abandon Microsoft (and Apple) based products. Something would truly love to do ASAP.
