Iceland/UK/Scandinavia Touring Maps
« on: July 01, 2013, 09:14:00 pm »
I'm in the early stage of planning long, self-contained 2014-15 tours in Iceland/UK/Scandinavia.  I'm experienced enough in "48 states touring" to manage with almost any map resources
(sometimes exhaustive, sometimes nothing and at other times anything/everything in between), but I haven't been to Iceland/UK/Scandinavia before and I need high-quality maps that'll give
me good coverage and show all my route options.

I'd rather not carry a case full of Michelin maps along with a small library of travel guide books and I think I'd rather approach this quandary with an electronic device.  Regrettably, I'm unburdened
by any form of knowledge or experience.

Would what I need to accomplish be best approached with a tablet relying on internet-accessible maps, a small laptop with loaded map software, a high-end smart-phone or something else?  I'm
presently in the dark and need some hints/clues/direction to get my research program started up.

Any and all input will be gratefully appreciated and thanks in advance for your help.

I'm new to this, but I just installed an app on my iphone and mini ipad called pocket earth. You can download maps from anywhere in the world and save them to be used when offline also. Might help you out.

I use a Nexus tablet with GPS and WiFi. Maps With Me is a great app that works with GPS only.
