San Diego to MX border

Touring the coast from SF heading south. Looking for a "safe" route from San Diego to the mx border. Then returning back to San Diego and flying back home to the east coast. If anyone wants to join to keep me company that would be awesome.

The ACA Pacific Coast route (Section 5) offers one option, hitting the Mexico border at Imperial Beach., taking the pedestrian-bicycle ferry to Coronado and following the bike path through Silver Strand State Beach.
