Looking For Cannondale TX1000 Info - Who Has or Had One

I think that is a lot to pay for an older bike.

 I picked up a like-new Cannondale 2010 T2 last spring for $600  on CL.  I was told that it had been ridden only 3 months and put in storage.   I believe it based on the condition of the bike.  The mold ridges were still on the center of the tire tread.  2010 is also the last year they made a touring bike, and the last year their bikes were made in the U.S.

I also got a nice little 2008 Long Haul Trucker for my daughter for $450 on CL.  It needed some work, but it is still a nice bike.

If you are patient there are some good values out there.

Y'all are really helpful. I have settled on finding a Trek 950,970,or 990 preferably the 970 or 990. Now my question is what is the difference in the three models? If the common factor is the frame I can work with that . So is the determining factor of the different model numbers the components? I think I would like a front suspension frame due to me wanting to do some rail trail tours. C&S I appreciate your tips on cost saving purchases. Trust me I am on a very limited budget and I already have a stable of Trek bikes I can cannibalize parts from. I really like your thinking!! I don't know if I mentioned this but I found a sweet Trek 970 in Canada that has already been upgraded. The price is right I am just trying to figure out if the shipping will put me over the top of my budget. Any one have cost saving suggestions for shipping items from Canada? I would love to drive up there but don't have the time.

Yes I had one it lasted a year and the dropouts were damaged by the axle to the point the tire rubbed the chainstays. This will be true of any aluminum bicycle. Try to load as much as possible on the front where the dropouts are steel.  A 130 mm OLN will work and I built one using a narrow 6 speed suntour freewheel and a solid axle. The original winner pro freewheel broke the removal tool and I had to take it apart and use a vise to get it off.  There is not a lot of room in the chainstays for a tire so a 1 3/8 or 35mm width is best. Currently 27 inch tires are more available at walmart than 700c tires and if you are going to tour cross country walmart will be your closest source for tires. On the other hand the walmart tires are made by Cheng Shin have a kevlar belt so they work fine. The frame is not super stiff and is actually mushy at the bottom bracket.
