Nova Scotia to Boston
« on: April 04, 2014, 08:51:24 pm »
In the fall I would like to take the ferry from Portland Maine to Nova Scotia and peddle back to Boston. Probably self contained. Does anyone have any info they could share. Places to stay/best maps to buy... Thank You

Where are you starting your ride?

I think the ferry from Portland will take you to Yarmouth. Are you then crossing back to Bar Harbor, ME? You can pick up the Atlantic Coast route all the way back to Boston.

I had not thought about taking the ferry back to Bar Harbor but that is something to think about...  I was thinking more of riding back to Boston from Yarmouth. Now with some of what I'm reading I am wondering if I ride Nova Scotia for 4/5 days and take the boat back to Portland from Yarmouth.

Ferry service from Portland ME to Yarmouth NS is to be restored on May 15 after several years of abandonment. The fares are relatively high, particularly so if you reserve a bunk for the overnight from Portland. The ferry between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth no longer exists. The other operating ferry runs between Saint John NB and Digby NS.
