When to leave? Boulder to Portland OR
« on: April 21, 2014, 03:48:53 pm »
I'm free after June 11th and wandering my way to pdx.  I'm worried about weather if I  head north along NP loop to northwest route.    What is earliest one might head out.

You can leave June 11. It'll be fine.

However, I have no idea what the "NP loop" nor the "northwest route" are.

Thanks for the reply.  I made little sense trying to remember route names by memory.

I'm considering

My segment A :
Great Parks South

Connecting to B :
TransAmerica Trail

Connecting to C.1 :
Lewis & Clark
or
Continuing on as C.2:
TransAmerica Trail

Connecting to :
Pacific Coast and back to PDX.

now to figure out some mileage for segments.

Good plan. You won't have any problem leaving on June 11. The Great Parks South route will be gorgeous in June. You can either ride up Left Hand Canyon (if it's open by then) to Ward to join the Great Parks South route, or you can ride through Lyons and up the South St Vrain canyon. Try to ride over Trail Ridge Road on a weekday, and start early in the morning. You can pick up the TransAm in Walden (a nice little town with a great town park you can camp in). Try to get through Yellowstone before July 4 to avoid the worst of the crowds.

Sounds like a great trip. I've ridden it all.
