Geronimo Trail
« on: April 24, 2014, 02:27:30 am »
Hi
I'm planning to ride the Great Divide later in the year.  Rather than finish at Antelope Wells, I'm thinking of going to Animas NM and following the Geronimo Trail to Douglas AZ.  I gather it is about 80m so maybe it is doable in a day.  I have googled on the subject and discovered a few things but haven't come across anyone who has cycled it. Anyone done it, know about it.  Be good to hear.  Thanks  Brett

I too am considering it for a future ride.  So far, I know it is 79 miles.  From Animas (not much there other than a cafe and CS), (BTW, nothing between Lordsburg and Animas either), the first 20 miles are paved.  At mile 28.7 is a stock pond.  At Mile 48 is a ranch or Border Patrol station (not sure which).  At mile 74 another 5 miles of pavement start.   Water may not be an issue if you can ask for some from the ever-present border patrol trucks going by.  Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks for the comment BJohn.

Looks like not a lot of experience/knowledge of this neck of the woods.  In the absence of any better info the only answer is to go for it.
But, I'll talk with locals when i get nearer to Hachita and see what they have to say.  Will be keeping a journal on Crazy Guy so will write it up in a few months.
