I'm on a bike trip from Oregon to Patagonia with a good friend and I'm on the lookout for a couple of components from fellow riders.
I'm doing the trip on an $300 80's Univega road bike I bought on craigslist the night before we departed. My intention is to prove that anyone can pick up and have an adventure with minimal resources, so I've set a few constraints and am documenting every dollar I spend.
The bike has treated me amazingly well for most of the trip so far, but my 27 inch wheelset became a pain in the ass when my tire sidewall decided to go in Northern California. Trying to find a new tire in a land where there are no real shops for 200 miles means you have to get clever with Duck Tape which really diminishes the enjoyment of winding downhills as you would expect.
All of that said, I have fixed my tire situation, but have come to realize that it might be smart to get a more accessible wheel size.
So if anyone has some 26" or 700c wheels between San Francisco and San Diego that they'd like to see go to the end of the world, hit me up. I have a budget of $10/day so I may have to get clever with bartering if you're into that sort of thing. I can clean your gutters or cut your lawn or hand deliver a letter to a friend in South America or any number of things.
Our site for our trip is oregontopatagonia.com if you want to see who you're dealing with.
Thanks!
