Prevailing winds on MI coast
« on: July 08, 2014, 11:57:15 am »
Hello all!

I'm planning a week long tour at the beginning of August that would involve riding from Ludington, MI down the coast and around the bottom of the lake. I can't seem to find any information about prevailing coastal winds. Is there a strong coastal wind pattern like on the Pacific coast (which has a consistently strong NW, especially during the summer). We don't have strong prevailing winds here in Chicago, but I know that east coasts and west coasts of large bodies of water are significantly different.

Thanks for any input.

Prevailing winds around these parts are westerlies coming across the lake.

Have a great trip!

EDIT: How was the trip? I just noticed it was this past August you were doing this...haha

It ended up being a really wonderful trip. I didn't write up a report (which is odd. might have to do that) but lots of pics are up on our site: roadsgoevereveron.com

And btw, excepting one day, there was basically no wind on the whole trip. We had pretty ideal weather.
