Tour De KY- Bent-On KY
« on: November 10, 2014, 11:04:52 pm »
Upon my return to Kentucky in the Spring of 2015...... I am wanting to organize and promote a race/tour of KY.  prefer using a Recumbent.  I want to start in my home town and end in my hometown of Benton KY.

This race is to promote awareness and to build a shelter for Homeless US Veterans.

Any Ideas  Bike. format of a race. mileage per day i.e. 75 or 100 or 125 ????. Sponsor fees etc.....

I will be either in a Doctoral Program or a Post Master program in the spring using this as part of my Academic Project......

Any help/ideas would be most helpful

Some things to think about:

I wouldn't limit it to recumbent bikes as that will limit your market.

You may need permits from municipalities.

Insurance?

A pure race may turn off more people than it attracts.

Accommodations and food?

Who will people be sponsoring? If not set up properly, the donations will not be tax deductible by the donor, which could limit willingness to give money.

the sponsor will be one of the churches in my home town  so tax deduction is covered.

Most KY cities aren't over burdensome with regulations like other states....I hadn't thought too much about insurance as I assumed waivers of liability would work.... .. but worth checking it out.

I was thinking about 100 miles a day  and making it about a 7 to 10 day event. Each stop would be at a KY state Park or Lodge. Lodging I had thought about each leg ending at a KY state Park  or lodge ( tents, sleeping bags and meals would be provided if someone wanted more than that they would be on their own to rent a lodge room)( each Park would have showers or other public accommodations)

Good point on Recumbent only, best to have two divisions.

 Any other ideas please share.
