HWY 75 - Alligator Alley
« on: December 09, 2014, 04:05:30 pm »
I am on a ride around the USA and will be in Florida in February. I will be riding down the gulf coast, go across the state and down to the keys, then back up the Atlantic coast. I'd like to cross the state on HWY 75, AKA "Alligator Alley". I know it's a toll road, but I can't find any information about bicycles being allowed or not. Has anyone been on this road, or is it not allowed?
Thanks!

That's Interstate 75. Unfortunately, you can't ride on Interstates in Florida, or states east of the Mississippi for the most part.

Thanks! I had my suspicions that this would be the case. Plenty of time to re-route!

You might consider taking the ferry from either Fort Myers Beach or Marco Island directly to Key West then riding back up the Keys.  I rode US-41 years ago and while OK, I would not do again.  I did the ferry (but reverse) and enjoyed it.  Bikes are easily done on the ferry.  Hope you enjoy the ride!

Thanks for that suggestion John - I will check it out since I especially love ferries.
