Southern Tier in January of February?
« on: December 19, 2015, 08:16:22 pm »
Trying to come up with a Winter tour to escape NE Ohio. I was wondering about part of the Southern Tier from maybe Baton Rouge and work my way to San Antonio? Possibly starting in Atlanta and working our way done to the Route.
So I would appreciate hearing from those of you who live in these areas or have toured at that time of the year to hear about the weather .
Thanks!!

I live in Houston. January and February can vary quite a bit with some days in the 70's and others in the 30's or 40's. If you go to the Texas Rio Grand Valley it can be warmer. Look at some of the journals at www.crazyguyonabike.dom for ideas on what they encountered. Another option might be the East Coast Greenway. Start in Jacksonville FL and ride to Key West. It should be warm there.

It is easily doable in winter. I did it at 65. Now I am 66. Have a good sleeping bag and tent if you camp. The 15 degree Slumberjack bag is fine for the cold. I used an 8 by 10 tarp. It was good enough. At $12.00 you can't beat the price.
