Possible to cycle from Vegas to Grand Canyon?
« on: February 07, 2015, 04:24:13 am »
Hi there

My husband and I are planning on a tandem ride across America (it's my first cycle tour) and we are very excited about it!

At the moment we're trying to see if it's possible to cycle from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon at all? We're thinking of sometime this April. A prelim research online seems to suggest lots of local people thinking it's a bit of a mad idea... would appreciate any advice/tips from fellow cyclists!

Thank you so much
Christine

It is possible to cycle from Vegas to Grand Canyon but there are only a couple of ways to get there and they involve some interstate riding.  You could ride from Vegas through Boulder to Kingman, AZ on Hwy 93.  You can then connect to old hwy 66 that will take you to I40 near Ashfork.  You can then ride on I40 to Williams, AZ and then hwy 64 to Grand Canyon.  Not sure of the services available on old 66 or the condition of the road.  (It may be part of ACA's new route for hwy 66.)  Going north from Vegas involves a lot of interstate travel.

North rim? South rim? Somewhere else? The Grand Canyon is a big place.
