Thanks, that was a great read! I just bought a Surface and was wondering what offline maps people liked to use for that?  Lucky, what map apps did you consider the most useful for routes and points of interest? Maybe some of them are multiplatform...

Well, I'm not too familiar with the Windows 10 platform. The two mapping apps covered in the article don't appear to offer versions that will run on a Surface tablet.

You could try Microsoft's in-house Maps app. It might allow for the downloading of map data to local storage. Also, Google might have a Windows version of their offerings. Google generally requires that users sign in with a Google account before downloading any maps. Other than time, it shouldn't cost anything to check them out.
