Great Divide Route Mail Drops
« on: May 29, 2015, 03:29:26 pm »
My husband and I are planning to do the gdmbr this summer. Again.  We did it ten years ago and can't get it out of our heads.  Last time we got a list of PO's to send out mail drops to.  As I remember it felt really stupid to send a drop box to big towns were we could easily pick up groceries.  If anyone has a list to suggest please let me know.  Otherwise we'll just go over the maps.  We are also considering sending or drops to motels to avoid missing closing times.  We usually do primitive camping except if we are overnighting in a town.  Prefer not to camp anywhere crowded so then we get a motel room.  Thanks for any advise.  Susan

I have not ridden the GDMBR yet, but I am studying hard. A few places come to mind.
Polebridge and Ovando, MT.
Mack's Inn, ID.
If SOBO, some where just north of the Great Divide Basin. Big Sandy Lodge maybe? Call and ask them if they will hold a box for you.
Update: Big Sandy Lodge will accept packages for guests. Both hikers and bikers have reported pleasant stays at the Lodge. It is a good place to relax, get your food together and then hit the Great Divide Basin rested and provisioned.
New Mexico. Resupply in New Mexico can be very spotty due to isolated stores coming and going. Mostly going out of business it seems.
Have a great trip. Tell us all about it.
What bikes are you riding?
