Fires on the Dalton Highway in Alaska
« on: July 10, 2015, 06:02:23 pm »
I’ve been planning a ride from Deadhorse at the north end of the Dalton Highway back home to San Francisco starting at the end of July, but have been reading concerning news about wildfires this year in Alaska. With news like “the air quality has been so bad that advisories to avoid the outdoors have been issued” (CNN), I’m wondering whether I should reconsider my route. I’ve never been to Alaska, though, so I don’t know enough to tell whether that’s just hyperbole.

Sites like http://511.alaska.gov seemed pretty informative with regard to the May/early June flooding, but don’t seem to reflect the intensity of fires that the news media is reporting.

Does anyone here know much about what actual, on-the-road conditions for cycling are like right now? Thanks for any advice!
