Using Garmin Edge Touring abroad?
« on: May 13, 2015, 03:56:00 pm »
So, I am going to Colombia in a few weeks and am wondering if I can use my Edge Touring while I am there.  I am not looking to find routes or even follow a preloaded route, just use it as a bike computer to record my rides every day (I'm going with a organized group and the rides are all set already).  I assume it will work but don't really know.  Does anyone know?

The GPS function should work in all locations as far as I'm aware. You would probably need to load alternate base maps if you wanted any details of the current location.

I just bought a Garmin Edge Touring for a trip to Europe. I found out it come with USA/Canada maps installed. I am thinking of ordering the Garmin Europe City Maps. Does anyone know if the Euro Velo maps routes are includes in the Europe maps or would I need to add them myself?

I am not aware of any device map the includes the EuroVelo. The Open Cycle Map includes an overlay that shows the EuroVelo routes. You will have to draw your own route on top of that.

Instead of purchasing Garmin Europe City maps, consider downloading Open Street Maps for free. Refer to information Adventure Cycling has on GPS Devices web page, under the Maps section.
