Crossing into USA from Canada - ESTA required for UK people?

Does anyone know if, as a UK passport holder, we need to get an ESTA to cross the border from Canada to USA by bike? All information we can find relates to arriving in the USA by air.

There should be a lot of information on crossing into the USA from Canada as a UK passport holder by automobile and that would have the same requirements as a bicycle.
