Note about GDMBR Warm River rail trail on map 2a

I did this today and did not find it too loose and sandy, at least not for my 29er+ front wheel and 2.2" back wheel.
It was heavily washboarded though which was annoying. As it rained heavily yesterday around Yellowstone, the first 10 miles or so had some fairly muddy areas to ride through.

Ran into 3 groups of ATV'ers, no big deal.

The warm river campground looked good, right on the river but was a bit crowded with a boyscout group so I went to Ashton. The log cabin motel is closed, but I got a small cabin at the Rankin motel. The gas station next door is a large convenience store and small deli as well.  The pizza place on main street was pretty good as well.

We rode this section a few weeks ago, the sand isn't bad but it is very badly washboarded.  We got off the trail after a couple of miles and rode mostly parallel gravel roads with very little traffic.  These roads were close enough to see most of the rail trail.  We got back on above the Warm River Canyon which is the best part.  Details of this alternate route are at http://routes.bergersride.com

I stopped by the squirrel river lodge on the way to Flagg ranch/grand Tetons and talked to some bikers. Seemed nice but hit or miss if there would be anyone making food at the cafe.  Other than that it seemed like a good place to stay.

Also, Flagg ranch was not that interesting and actually seemed kind of ugly to me.  While the ride to Coulter Bay was more work than I wanted (maybe 1k of ascending?), the campground is nicer with biker sites and the store has much more than Flagg. Might stay an extra day as the lake views are great
