Lewis and Clark - WB Kamiah to Lewiston

My wife and I are hunkered down in Kamiah Idaho for the night waiting for a break in the numerous wildfires to the west.  We're riding unsupported from Red Lodge Montana to Astoria Oregon. 

Hwy 12 sounds bad even in the best of conditions but the smoke is making it impassable now.  Our planned ride out of town on hwy 162 also appears to be blocked by firefighting efforts. We could use any suggestions on how to make it the 8 or 9 miles past the hwy 162 fire zone. Thanks.
