CA/AZ desert questions
« on: August 03, 2015, 04:56:14 pm »
i'm planning to cycle from palm springs, ca east on hwy 62.  then get on 95 north thru lake havasu city.  then pick up route 66/i40.

any advice on water/logistics through here?  i'm fully prepared it'll be hot as hades and incredibly challenging.  i get that.  i just would like any riders experienced with this area in terms of particularly long "nothing" stretches.

thanks, i'm on the road, currently in santa barbara having started in florida in march.  i'm heading back to florida in any way other than the crow flies,

I don't recommend cycling up the "hill" on 62 from I-10.  It has high speed traffic and in several places there is no shoulder with poor visibility for drivers.  I suggest getting on I-10 in Indo at Dillion Road.  You can ride on the wide shoulder until you get to Cottonwood Springs road.  Take this north through Joshua Tree National Park and connect to hwy 62.    If you ride early and late in the day you will most likely see some of the wildlife in the desert.
